CONFERENCE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN HERE

Early bird pricing is available until the 25th June and offers savings of between $35 to $45

Fees for international registrants - ie anyone outside of South Korea - are significantly lower, in recognition of the travel costs international travellers will incur.

·     We have secured a discounted rate at the IBIS AMBASSADOR Hotel, which includes a free shuttle return trip daily from the hotel to the conference venue. Rooms can be booked at the FEAST website, so you do not need to deal with a Korean booking portal. There is a room-only option (without breakfast) for those who are happy to rely on Starbucks in the hotel complex, or visit a neighbouring food outlet!

·     If you wish to tour in South Korea pre- or post-Conference, we will happily put you in touch with other registrants.  (E.g. to visit Seoul from 9 – 12th). Several presenters are arriving on 3rd or 4th.

·     Travelling solo and looking to cut costs by sharing a room? We are already compiling a list!

·     Need a persuasive or supportive letter or invitation in order to help you secure funds or convince someone to let you go? Do email me at feaststory@gmail.com and let me know what you need – I’ve already sent several letters/invitations.

·     Opportunities to tell at a FEAST Story Booth at the Bookizcon Children’s Book Fair will soon open up. As long as you have a suitable story and are willing to work with a volunteer interpreter in advance, we will try to schedule you in with minimal disruption to your Conference experience (The fair is on level 1 and  the conference is on on level 2 of the Convention Center).

There will be 3 or 4 workshops offered at each time slot,  a total of 16 workshops for the entire Conference. We expect each workshop will last 2 hours and should accommodate up to 30 people.  We have also partnered with Suwon Convention Center to provide storytelling opportunities for Conference Attendees.

We realise this is less than 12 months after the previous Conference. Going forward, the Directors have resolved that future Conferences will be held between 18 - 24 months apart. As such, we expect the 5th Conference to take place in 2026 and the 6th will coincide with celebrations for our 10th anniversary in 2028.

LEADING UP TO THE CONFERENCE

March 2024, FEAST marked a new chapter in its history by signing a joint Memorandum of Understanding with the Suwon Convention Center (in Suwon, South Korea) and the Korean International Storytellers Association. This is a strong declaration of intent to collaborate by all three organisations centred around Suwon's annual children's book fair (BOOKIZCON) to foster cultural exchange and participation by storytellers. This initial agreement is for two years, but we hope that success in supporting Bookizcon this year (with workshops and performances) we will open the door to an annual opportunity for some members to perform there in future.

The signing ceremony was the highlight of a visit by Director Roger Jenkins who also visited the Convention Center to view the venues for our Conference sessions. On the 17th he conducted a workshop on Storytelling Strategies in English Language Teaching, with significant help from KISA President, Alicia Dong Bang-Joo. Together they told bilingually a tandem version of the quarrelling siblings story about Building a Bridge (instead of a wall) which suited both the ocassion and the theme of this month's World storytelling Day! An audience of 40 KISA members, expatriate professors from a local university and some budding middle-school tellers were hopefully inspired to attend our September Conference.
