Hi there fellow improvisers!
This is my 3rd attempt to contact you as by trial and error I work out how to set up a forum and get you all on it! Yesterday you may have received an email from me welcoming you to the Plot Luck forum but DUH! SILLY ME! I sent it as an email rather than via the forum, which totally defeats the purpose. Blame it on the covid (I'm on day day 6 and definitely on the end, though still tested positive this morning)
Later in the day, I realsied my mistake and resent it via the forum - but didn't realise I had to make you part of the forum in order for you to receive it (you do now have the option to opt out - but I hope you won't!)
Just in case you didn't get the email, here's what I wrote:
Thank you for registering for the Plot Luck SIG - there are currently 17 of us on board, including Ohshima and myself, which is a pleasant surprise. We may still get some more joining us as there are still a (considerable!) number of members who have yet to renew!
The forum is how we will communicate with each other going forward. (The FEAST Event calendar will merely inform members that we are meeting and let newcomers know they need to register first. But effectively, Plot Luck will operate independently and we are responsible for managing ourselves.) We'll send the link to the zoom meets via the Forum and it'll be a place where we can comment, discuss, question - and of course suggest ideas for new games.
Here is a link to a recording of our session in May https://youtu.be/Nr7EO5LcKlk which was only shared with those who attended. This - and future Plot Luck recordings - is not for public viewing but can provide a useful recap of how the session went. Apart from the opening gift game - there's now an edited 6.30' version of it on the Plot Luck page on the website PLOT LUCK SIG - in the full recording you can enjoy:
Experts Waffle - our panel of experts explain odd objects provided by the audience - you'll be amazed at the interpretation of the large whisk!
3 Random 2-person scenes that, despite taking place in a circus, a night market and on a boat in the middle of the ocean, are then connected in a final scene. This one I particularly recommend (it starts about 51.30) as it demonstrates lots of good listening and partner work (and how you can involve your partner even if, logically/realistically, their role might be non-verbal!) The solution the players create (I was not involved in the improv) is excellent and provided a most entertaining and satisfactory conclusion to a very entertaining evening.
Come ready to play and without fear of 'failure' - as Ohshima says in the recording, taking risks is part and parcel of improv! Having a prop or two to hand might come in handy - bearing in mind that you could use it literally or creatively (see my playing with an umbrella video on the Plot Luck page also.
My hope is that we can work towards acquiring a degree of familiarity with a repertoire of games until we feel ready to present a live performance - where our audience would provide some of the 'ingredients' that we need to incorporate into our improvisations.
Our next meet is on the 20 July and Ohshima and I forward to meeting you all there.
Roger
