12 April 2025:

CELEBRATING STORIES OF DR. MARGARET READ MACDONALD

In this Story Swap, you'll see seven tellers sharing six stories (one is a bi-lingual tandem in English & Tamil) featured in some of Margaret's many folktale collections. Margaret also shares a story, appropriately The Baskset Weaver. She also contextualises the stories and shares some amusing anecdotes relating to them. With almost 100 registrants, there were a lot of people eager to share their own telling of one of 'her' stories. So FEAST invites anyone who has such a recording to feaststory@gmail.com for us to share on this page. Enjoy!

Feast is grateful for all the tellers who sent us these links. All copyright to these recordings belong to their respective tellers.

GRANDFATHER BEAR IS HUNGRY

Enjoy Margarret herself having fun in an unrehearsed tandem with the irrepressible Jeff Gere as Margaret demonstrates how you too can tell a story at home with a partner. Do enjoy the out-takes at the end of the video as Margaret tries to get chipmunk (aka Jeff) to be sort of on the same page! Delightful to see two fine tellers, good friends. playfully telling together.

TWO GOATS ON THE BRIDGE

as told by John Titi, Nairobi 2016

Margaret provides the background how this version of the story came about during the celebration and also mentions her delight at seeing this version by John Titi. The song is magical. I recorded this when I wparticipated in the sigana Story Festival in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2016.
