Storytelling as a profession invites those who love to communicate creatively with their listeners. The content is an integral part of the storytelling performance: the story. However the medium, which is one’s own voice and speech, is no less significant.
While some of us are naturally gifted with a radio-genic voice, clear utterance, and or musicality in speech, others are not. These qualities benefit a professional storyteller and are worth acquiring and strengthening.
This webinar is an attempt to share some of the voice and speech-related learnings acquired over 40 odd years of Deepa Kiran's work and life experiences in; All India Radio, English language teaching, theatre & television projects, narrating in dance ballets, recording voice-overs for films and learning yoga.
This is an interactive webinar, with exercises plucked from theatre, yoga, radio voice-work, chanting, poetry-reading, and music. These exercises will help strengthen your voice, improve clear utterance, and build musicality in speech. Together we will work on:
voice culture exercises - Improving tonality, range and strength.
Speech - Articulation and intonation.
Sound effects - What might work well? Why and how? The need for balancing sound and speech.
Deepa is the founder of the Story Arts Foundation, a storyteller, educationalist and festival organizer from Hyderabad, India.
